FAQ

Do I need a parking permit for the moving van?
Bicester is a blend of a rapidly expanding garden town and a traditional market center. While massive new developments like Graven Hill or Kingsmere are designed with wider roads and off-street parking, the historic core and areas near Bicester Village are much more restrictive. Bicester is managed by Cherwell District Council, though on-street parking enforcement is often handled at the county level.

If your move involves streets in the town center (like Sheep Street or the residential lanes off Causeway), you will likely encounter Resident Permit Zones or "No Loading" restrictions. In these cases, you will need to apply for a Parking Suspension.

What is the best time to schedule my move?
Bicester faces unique traffic challenges due to its popularity as a shopping destination and its proximity to the M40. The town’s road network can become heavily congested, especially where the A41 meets the local distributor roads.

The Pinch Point: The A41/B4030 roundabout (near the Kingsmere entrance) and the roads surrounding Bicester Village see heavy volume. On weekends and bank holidays, traffic backed up from the retail park can paralyze the southern side of town. Additionally, the level crossings at London Road can cause unpredictable tailbacks when freight and passenger trains pass through.

Our Advice: Avoid the peak commuter rush (7:30 AM – 9:00 AM) and, more importantly, avoid moving on a Saturday if your route takes you anywhere near the south of the town. A mid-week move starting at 9:30 AM is the sweet spot, allowing you to bypass both the school run and the mid-day shopper influx.

Where can I dispose of unwanted items before the move?
For those looking to lighten the load before moving day, Bicester has a dedicated facility located just outside the main town center.
Ardley Household Waste Recycling Centre: Located on Station Road (OX27 7PH), just off the B430. It is a well-organized site that accepts everything from bulky furniture and white goods to garden waste and recyclables.

Note: The site is managed by Oxfordshire County Council. If you are using a commercial-sized van or a trailer over 1.8 meters to transport your own household waste, you must register for a free permit online before visiting. Be sure to bring a form of ID or a utility bill to prove you are a resident of the county, as the staff frequently check at the entrance.

We are able to supply up to four Luton capacity type vans to accommodate your moving needs.

Do you offer storage solutions?

Yes, we can arrange disposal services for any unwanted items identified during your move, upon request. We have added this service as we find whilst moving customers have many unwanted items usually from there loft, garage or shed or maybe due to downsizing.

Bicester Village

Bicester is a town of remarkable contrasts—where one of the world’s most famous luxury shopping destinations sits alongside a historic Saxon settlement and a pioneering "eco-town." Located in the heart of Oxfordshire, Bicester has transformed from a quiet agricultural and military outpost into one of the fastest-growing towns in Europe. It is a place that feels simultaneously global and deeply rooted in the English countryside.

Historically known for its priory and its strategic importance as a railway hub, modern Bicester is now defined by its status as a "Garden Town." It manages to balance the high-octane energy of Bicester Village with a commitment to sustainable living and a surprisingly tranquil historic core.

Moving to the Bicester Area

Bicester’s layout is a patchwork of eras. You’ll find everything from 16th-century thatched cottages to carbon-neutral smart homes, all connected by an increasingly sophisticated network of cycle paths and green corridors.

1. Pick Your "Side" of the Town
Whether you are looking for the prestige of a luxury lifestyle or the quiet of a sustainable community, Bicester has distinct "zones" to suit different priorities.

  • The Historic Heart (Market Square & Causeway): This is the town’s soul. Centered around the Grade I-listed St Edburg’s Church, this area features narrow streets, honey-hued limestone buildings, and traditional pubs. Living here offers a "village feel" within a growing town, perfect for those who value character and walkability.

  • The Eco-Pioneer (Elmsbrook): Located to the north, Elmsbrook is part of the North West Bicester Eco-Town. This is the UK’s first true eco-development, where every home is designed to be carbon-neutral. It’s the go-to for the environmentally conscious, featuring solar panels on every roof, rainwater harvesting, and lush community orchards.

  • The Modern Commuter (Kingsmere & Graven Hill): Kingsmere offers polished, family-oriented suburban living with excellent schools and parks. For something more unique, Graven Hill is the UK’s largest self-build community (made famous by Grand Designs), where the architecture is as diverse as the residents themselves.

2. Navigating Life in the Town
  • Bicester offers a lifestyle that scales from local community charm to international flair.

  • Retail Therapy (Two Ways): Most visitors know Bicester Village, the luxury outlet mall that attracts millions of tourists annually. However, locals frequent Pioneer Square and the Sheep Street pedestrianized area, which house independent boutiques, a cinema, and a vibrant weekly market that has been running since 1239.

  • Green Spaces & Heritage: For a breath of fresh air, the Bicester Wetlands Reserve offers a peaceful escape for bird watching and walks. Nearby, Bicester Heritage—located on a perfectly preserved 1940s RAF bomber station—is a "marina for classic cars," hosting world-class automotive events and fly-ins.
  •
  • Connectivity: Bicester is a commuter’s dream. With two railway stations (Bicester North and Bicester Village), you can be in London Marylebone in about 50 minutes or Oxford in under 20.
  •
  • Local Tip: Skip the weekend traffic at Bicester Village by visiting on a Tuesday morning. For the best local atmosphere, grab a coffee at Nash’s Bakery or a pint at The King's Arms, which dates back to the 18th century and was once a prominent coaching inn.
