FAQ

Do I need a parking permit for the moving van?
Chalfont St Giles is also managed by Buckinghamshire Council. Generally, the village is less "permit-heavy"
but it has its own unique hurdles:
The Village Center: If you are moving to a property near High Street, The Green, or Deanway, space is extremely limited. While there aren't vast "Resident Permit Zones," there are specific restricted parking bays and narrow passing points.

Waivers/Dispensations: If your moving van needs to park on yellow lines or in a restricted time-limited bay to gain access to your front door, you must apply for a Parking Waiver/Dispensation.

Parking Suspensions: If you need to "reserve" specific bays outside your house to ensure the van can actually fit, you should apply for a Parking Suspension.

What is the best time to schedule my move?
Your main enemies here are the A413 and the local school traffic.
The Commuter Flow: The A413 is a major artery for people heading toward the M25. It gets heavily congested between 7:45 AM and 9:00 AM.

The "School Pinch": Chalfont St Giles Junior School and the nearby secondary schools in the nearby villages create significant bottlenecks on Deanway and Three Households.

Our Advice: Aim for a 9:30 AM or 10:00 AM start. This avoids the heavy commuter traffic on the A413 and ensures you aren't trying to maneuver a large van through the village just as parents are dropping off children

The Pinch Point: "The Ford" and High Street  Chalfont St Giles has a literal geographic pinch point.
The Ford: If your moving van is coming from the A413 side, be aware of the narrow bridge and the ford area near Pheasant Hill. Large removal vans can struggle with the tight turns if cars are parked inconsiderately.

Narrow Lanes: If you are moving to the outskirts (like Up Corner or Narcot Lane), the roads become very rural and narrow. Pawels Removals uses low loading moving vans so they should be fine rather than one massive HGV.

What is the maximum number of vans you can provide?
We are able to supply up to four Luton capacity type vans to accommodate your moving needs.

Chalfont St Giles

Chalfont St Giles is the "Literary Heart of the Chilterns." It is famously where John Milton finished Paradise Lost while escaping the Great Plague of London.

Today, it remains one of the most preserved and photogenic locations in the county. Walking through its center feels like stepping into a period drama; the timber-framed buildings, the ancient duck pond, and the medieval church create a sanctuary that feels miles away from the modern world.

Moving to Chalfont St Giles

Living here is a choice for those who prioritize heritage, community intimacy, and immediate access to an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Identify Your Neighborhood
The village is roughly divided into three distinct residential atmospheres:

  • The Historic Core (The High Street & Deanway): This is for lovers of character. You’ll find 16th-century cottages with low beams and brick-and-flint facades. It’s perfect for those who want to walk to the local butcher, the post office, or the legendary museum.

  • The Vache & Nightingales Lane: This is the "Grand Estate" pocket. Nightingales Lane is one of the most prestigious addresses in the country, featuring sprawling detached mansions hidden behind deep, wooded drives. The Vache area offers high-end conversions and stately homes set within a historic parkland backdrop.

  • The Upper Village (Narcot Lane & Bowstridge Lane): Climbing the hill, this area offers more "livable" family space. You’ll find 1930s detached houses and modern developments that provide larger gardens and elevated views over the valley.

The Lifestyle Blueprint
Chalfont St Giles offers a "slow-living" experience where the pace is dictated by the seasons rather than a city timetable.

  • The Grammar School Hook: The village is a major draw for families due to the local educational system. It sits in a prime catchment area for elite grammar schools, with an excellent local primary school right in the center.

  • A "Boutique" High Street: You won't find major chains here. Instead, life revolves around independent gems like the local deli, a traditional butcher, and florists. It’s a place where shopkeepers know your name and your coffee order.

  • The "Secret" Commute: While the village has no station of its own, residents are just a short drive from major rail links. This allows you to "live in the middle of nowhere" while being in the capital in under an hour.
  •
  • Rural Recreation: The village is the gateway to an open-air museum—a 45-acre site of rescued historic buildings. For golfers, the local club offers some of the most scenic and challenging terrain in the region.

Local Tip: The "Village Green" Vibe

For a true taste of local life, grab a drink or food at the Merlin,s Cave. It is the hub of the community, especially during the massive annual summer fair.

Did you know? Because the village looks so "perfectly English," it is a frequent filming location. You’ve likely seen the High Street in various detective dramas and historical films.
