Reviews From our Satisfied Customers

Nat Hamer
Ive used Pawels Removals twice now - once to empty my house and put all of my possessions in to a storage unit a couple of years ago and then recently to remove them from the storage unit and to deliver my possessions 100 miles away after I relocated. On both occasions, the guys were friendly and worked quickly, providing a brilliant service. They're very reasonably priced too! I'd definitely recommend and use them again in the future if needed.

FAQ Asked in Dunstable

Do I need a parking permit for the moving van?
Dunstable’s layout is a blend of old market town charm and sprawling post-war estates. While areas like Beechen Green or the newer developments toward Houghton Regis generally have plenty of driveway or kerbside space, the town centre and streets near the Priory Church are far more restrictive.

Dunstable is managed by Central Bedfordshire Council. If your new home is located on a street with resident permit restrictions (common near the High Street) or has strict "No Waiting" yellow lines, you will need to apply for a Parking Waiver (Dispensation).

Pro Tip: You should apply through the Central Bedfordshire Council website at least 5 to 7 working days in advance. This is particularly crucial if you are moving into the narrow terraced streets off West Street or Church Street, where a large removal truck can easily block the entire road if not properly permitted.

What is the best time to schedule my move?
Dunstable is famous (or perhaps infamous) for its traffic, as it sits at the crossroads of the A5 (Watling Street) and the A505. Despite the opening of the Woodside Link and the A5-M1 Link road, the town centre can still experience heavy congestion.

The Pinch Point: The main crossroads in the town centre (where the A5 meets the A505) is the primary "logjam" spot. Traffic backing up from the M1 Junction 11 or 11A often spills into Dunstable’s main arteries during rush hour.

The School Factor: Avoid moving between 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM, especially near Queensbury Academy or Manshead CE Academy, as the local residential roads become flooded with cars.

Our Advice: Aim for a 9:30 AM or 10:00 AM start. This lets the M1 commuters clear out and ensures your moving team isn't stuck idling on the Chalk Hill climb, which helps keep your moving costs down and your stress levels low.

Where can I dispose of unwanted items before the move?
Dunstable residents have access to a very efficient recycling site, though it can get busy on weekends.

Thorn Turn Household Waste Recycling Centre: Located on Gipsy Lane (LU5 6QD), just off the A5/Woodside Link. It is a modern, clean facility designed to handle everything from bulky furniture to white goods.

Note: You must bring ID and proof of address (such as a driving licence or council tax bill) to show you live in the Central Bedfordshire area. If you are using a van to drop off your own rubbish, you must apply for a Waste Dispersal Permit via the council website before arriving, or the marshals will not let you enter.

What is the maximum number of vans you can provide?
We are able to supply up to four Luton capacity type vans to accommodate your moving needs.

Do you supply packing materials and packaging?

Do you offer storage solutions?

What are the costs associated with your removal services?
Pricing varies as no two jobs are identical. Costs are determined based on factors such as distance, required manpower, and the volume of furniture and boxes.

Will you place our belongings in specific rooms or upstairs as needed?
Yes, we will deliver your items to any designated room or floor as per your instructions within your property.

How do you protect our property during the move?
We employ carpet protectors and rely on the expertise of our trained staff to carefully maneuver furniture, minimizing any risk to your property.

Do you offer a disposal service for unwanted items?
Yes, we can arrange disposal services for any unwanted items identified during your move, upon request. We have added this service as we find whilst moving customers have many unwanted items usually from there loft, garage or shed or maybe due to downsizing.

 Dunstable Town

Dunstable is a vibrant market town with a dual personality: one half is steeped in ancient history as the oldest charter town in the county, and the other is a modern gateway to some of the most dramatic landscapes in the East of England.

The town’s heritage is anchored by the Dunstable Priory, a magnificent 12th-century Augustinian remains where royal history was famously made. However, its modern identity is defined by the Dunstable Downs. As the highest point in the region, the Downs offer panoramic views that serve as a playground for gliders, kite-flyers, and hikers. With its blend of historic inns, the contemporary Grove Theatre, and a bustling town center, Dunstable offers a high-energy lifestyle balanced by immediate access to the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

If you are Moving to Dunstable

Choosing Dunstable means trading a traditional train-station-centric life for a more flexible, road-and-busway-connected lifestyle. It is a town favored by those who want the "Downs on their doorstep" without sacrificing urban conveniences.

1. Pick Your "Side" of the Town

Dunstable is largely shaped by its historic crossroads and its proximity to the hills.
  • South & Southwest Dunstable: This is widely considered the most sought-after residential quarter. It is dominated by spacious 1960s and 1980s detached and semi-detached family homes. Life here is quiet and suburban, with the significant benefit of being within walking distance of the Chilterns Gateway Centre and the open grasslands of the Downs.

  • The Priory Quarter (Central): For those seeking character, the streets around the High Street and Church Street feature Victorian terraces and historic apartments. Living here puts you in the heart of the town’s social life, steps away from the Priory Gardens and local markets.

  • North Dunstable: This area offers a mix of established mid-century housing and newer developments. It is particularly popular with professionals due to its proximity to the A5 and the industrial hubs, providing a more affordable entry point into the market.

  • The Beacons (Eastern Edge): Located near the border with the neighbouring conurbation, this area features a range of modern family estates. Residents here benefit from the Guided Busway, which provides a rapid, dedicated link for commuters.

  • 2. Navigating Life at the Gateway
Life in Dunstable revolves around a unique transport setup and an "active weekend" culture.
  • The Guided Busway: While Dunstable does not have its own train station, the Luton-Dunstable Busway is a game-changer. These dedicated tracks allow high-speed buses to bypass traffic, reaching Luton Station in roughly 15 minutes or Luton Airport in 30, connecting you directly to the Midland Main Line for fast trains to London St Pancras.

  • High-Altitude Leisure: The Dunstable Downs are more than just a view; they are a lifestyle. The local London Gliding Club offers a unique way to see the county, while the Chiltern Gateway Centre serves as the hub for the town’s massive community of walkers and cyclists.

  • The "Outstanding" School Draw: The town is a major draw for families due to high-performing primary and secondary academies. Several local schools hold Outstanding ratings, and the town sits within reach of regional grammar school testing options.
  • Arts and Entertainment: Unlike many smaller towns, Dunstable boasts the Grove Theatre, which brings national touring shows and comedy to the local community. Coupled with the Splash Park and Bennett Memorial Recreation Ground, there is a strong focus on year-round family activity.
  •
Commuter Tip: For those heading south by car, Junctions 11 and 11a of the M1 are minutes away. Many residents find that "Super-commuting" is made easier by using Leagrave Station as an alternative rail head, which offers a direct 45-minute journey into the capital.
