FAQ

Do I need a parking permit for the moving van?
In Hoddesdon, it depends entirely on whether your new street falls within a Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ).
Resident Parking Areas: Many streets near the High Street and Hoddesdon Town Centre (like those around Fawkon Walk or near John Warner School) require permits. If you are moving into one of these zones, your moving van will technically be in contravention if it stays for the duration of the move without permission.

Pro Tip: If your move is in the town centre on a Wednesday or Friday, remember it's Market Day. Access to certain side streets can be significantly more difficult due to delivery vehicles and increased foot traffic.

What is the best time to schedule my move?
Hoddesdon is a notorious bottleneck for commuters heading toward the M25 or into Hertford/Harlow.

The Pinch Point: The A1170 (High Street/Ware Road) and the Dinant Link Road are the main arteries. During peak hours, the roundabout connecting the A10 to the town becomes heavily congested.

The "School Run" Factor: Schools like The John Warner School and Sheredes Primary create localized gridlock between 8:15 AM – 9:00 AM.

Our Advice: Aim for a 9:30 AM start. This lets the London-bound commuters clear the A10 and allows the school traffic to settle. It also gives your removal team enough time to get the van loaded and out of town before the afternoon rush begins around 3:30 PM.

Where can I dispose of unwanted items before the move?
Hoddesdon is actually very well-equipped for decluttering, but there is a new rule you need to know:
Hoddesdon Household Waste Recycling Centre: Located on Pindar Road (EN11 0BZ).

The "ePass" Requirement: As of late 2023/2024, Hertfordshire residents now need an ePass to access the site. It's free, but you must register your vehicle on the Hertfordshire County Council website before you go.

Van Restrictions: If you are using a van to take items to the tip yourself, you will need a specific Van Permit, even if it’s just for one day.
Opening Times: It is typically closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, so plan your final clear-out for a Monday or a weekend.

What is the maximum number of vans you can provide?
We are able to supply up to four Luton capacity type vans to accommodate your moving needs.

The Area of Hoddesdon

Hoddesdon is a busy market town in Hertfordshire’s Lea Valley that manages to keep its coaching-inn history while serving as a practical base for London commuters. It has a more grounded, authentic feel than some of its manicured neighbors, shaped largely by its broad High Street and its proximity to the River Lee. For many, it hits the "sweet spot" between rural Hertfordshire and easy access to the city.

The town center is defined by the historic Clock Tower, a long-standing local landmark. Originally a key stop on the old coaching route between London and Cambridge, Hoddesdon has shifted from its origins as a merchant hub into a popular place to live.

Residents get the best of the local landscape—with Lee Valley Regional Park nearby—alongside a steady mix of shops and restaurants that keep the town active well into the evening.

Moving to Hoddesdon

Living in HoddesdonChoosing Hoddesdon means opting for a town that feels established and "lived-in." It appeals to young professionals and families who want plenty of green space and good transport links without the higher price tags found in nearby St Margarets.

Where to Live
The property market is varied, ranging from timber-framed historic houses to modern apartments by the water.
  • The Historic Center & Conservation Area: Around the High Street and Lord Street, there are many character properties, including Georgian townhouses and Victorian terraces. Living here puts the local markets and independent cafes right on your doorstep.

  • The Southern Side: This is often considered the most prestigious part of town. Areas like Warrington Road and Baas Hill feature large detached family homes and quiet, leafy streets. It is popular for its easy access to the station and highly-rated local schools.

  • The Rye Park & Marina District: To the east, the atmosphere changes as you get closer to the water. This area offers a mix of mid-century houses and newer apartment complexes near Rye House. It’s ideal for those who want quick access to the wetlands, the karting circuit, and riverside trails.

Town Life
Life here is defined by a strong sense of local pride and a busy community calendar.
  • The Commuter Edge: While there isn't a station in the dead center of town, residents use the mainline station (a 5-minute drive or a brisk walk away) or Rye House. Fast trains reach London Liverpool Street in about 30 minutes, making it a solid choice for City workers.

  • Retail & Tradition: The town is well-known for its Wednesday and Friday markets, which have been running for centuries. The High Street is a rare success story, blending big-name brands with independent shops, traditional butchers, and a growing food scene of Italian delis and craft beer spots.

  • Lee Valley Leisure: Residents have the Lee Valley Regional Park right there. Between white-water rafting at the nearby Olympic center, birdwatching at Rye Meads, or cycling the towpaths toward Hertford or London, outdoor activity is a big part of the culture.

  • Education: The town has several "Good" and "Outstanding" primary schools. For older children, the proximity to high-achieving academies in the Hertford and Ware area makes it a practical base for families.
  •
Local Tip: Check out the Charter Fair or the Lowewood Museum to get a feel for the town’s history. For a quiet weekend, locals head to the Barclay Park ornamental lake—it’s a great spot for a Sunday morning walk away from the High Street noise.
