Alex
I’ve used their services twice now for house moves and they have been excellent on both occasions! Despite some access issues on my recent move the two men with a van did a great job at quickly helping me move home. Would absolutely recommend their services!

These guys were outstanding! We were relocating an 18,000sq ft office to a smaller premises and recycling leftover furniture and various equipment. The work was concluded within the timeframe promised, the team were so polite, hardworking and dedicated, working several long days to achieve the goals. They left the old office tidy and free of any rubbish, even picked up the many nuts and bolts from the unwanted heavy duty furniture and machines. Top class. Thank you all.
Hanna
Five+ star experience from Paweł and his team. Straightforward booking process and a competitive quote. The moving crew was on time, they worked efficiently and at speed and took good care of all our belongings during transport. No challenge was too big to tackle - the guys were true problem solvers and managed to move all the furniture out and into the desired rooms without a scratch on the furniture or the wall. The team was courteous and friendly. I’d recommend Pawels Removals in heartbeat - their professionalism has definitely made the moving day way less stressful!

FAQ

How do St Albans’ narrow streets and 20mph zones affect my move?
St Albans has many narrow, historic streets (particularly near the Abbey and Fishpool Street) that are difficult for large HGVs to navigate. Furthermore, the council has recently rolled out 20mph speed limits on over 70 residential roads. We plan our routes to avoid these tight squeezes where possible, but we recommend checking for any specific weight or width restrictions on your new street.

Do I need to arrange parking for the moving van in St Albans?
Yes, if you are moving to a Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) in the city center or near the train station, you will likely need a parking suspension.

Where to apply: St Albans City & District Council.
Timeline: You must apply at least 7 working days in advance. This ensures we can park directly outside your door without the risk of a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN).

When is the best time to schedule my move to avoid St Albans traffic?
Traffic in St Albans is notoriously heavy on the A414 and around the M25/M1 junctions.

Best Strategy: We recommend a mid-morning start (around 10:00 AM) to avoid the heavy commuter rush and the "school run" congestion near the many central primary schools.

Tip: Avoid Friday afternoons if your move involves using the M25, as delays are frequent.

Where can I dispose of items, and do I need a permit?
The St Albans Household Waste Recycling Centre on Ronsons Way is the primary site for clear-outs.
Van Permits: If you are using a van to drop off items yourself, you must apply for a "Van and Trailer Permit" from Hertfordshire County Council in advance.Proof of Address: Remember to bring a utility bill or driving licence, as the site is strictly for Hertfordshire residents.

What is the maximum number of vans you can provide?
We are able to supply up to four Luton capacity type vans to accommodate your moving needs.

Do you supply packing materials and packaging?

Will you place our belongings in specific rooms or upstairs as needed?
Yes, we will deliver your items to any designated room or floor as per your instructions within your property.

How do you protect our property during the move?

Discover St Albins

St Albans is where Roman ruins meet high-end retail, and where the weight of 2,000 years of history sits comfortably alongside a vibrant, modern commuter pulse. It isn’t just a city; it’s a collection of distinct "villages" held together by the massive flint walls of its Abbey.

It is defined by its hills, its markets, and its greenery. While London is just 20 minutes away by rail, the city feels worlds apart, anchored by Verulamium Park—a 100-acre lung of grass and water where the ghost of a Roman city still sits beneath the turf

Moving to St Albins

1. Choose Your "Side"
St Albans is a patchwork. Depending on which hill you climb, the character of the city shifts entirely.

  • The Cathedral Quarter (The Historic Core): This is the postcard version of St Albans. Narrow, winding medieval streets like Fishpool Street and George Street are lined with timber-framed cottages and independent boutiques. Living here is for those who want to hear the Abbey bells and be steps away from the city’s best pubs.

  • The Station Side (The Commuter Hub): Centered around Victoria Street, this area is the engine room. Dominated by Victorian terraces and sleek apartments, it’s fast-paced, urban, and perfectly positioned for those who treat St Pancras International like their local station.

  • The Artisanal Fringe (Fleetville): To the east, you find a younger, "grittier" energy. Hatfield Road is the artery here, famous for its vintage markets, independent bakeries, and a community-led vibe that feels like a leafier version of East London.

  • The Garden Suburb (Marshalswick): To the north, wide avenues and 1950s architecture take over. This is the "educational heartland," home to top-tier schools and a quiet, family-focused atmosphere centered around The Quadrant shopping parade.

2. Navigating Life in the City
Life here is a balance of ancient traditions and modern convenience, revolving around the market and the "city-to-country" transition.

  • The Charter Market: Every Wednesday and Saturday, the market takes over St Peters Street. It has been running since the 9th century and remains the best place to find everything from artisanal cheese to locally grown flowers.

  • The Pub Culture: St Albans famously claims to have the most pubs per square mile in the country. From the subterranean "snugs" of Ye Olde Fighting Cocks (one of the oldest in Britain) to the craft beer gardens of the Mad Squirrel, the pub is the city’s living room.

  • The Commuter Rhythm: The Thameslink is the city’s lifeline. Even with the shift to hybrid working in 2026, the 20-minute jump to London keeps the city feeling like a sophisticated extension of the capital, though its soul remains purely Hertfordshire.

  • Local Tip: For the quintessential St Albans morning, start at Hatch (just a short walk from the station) for their famous brunch and locally roasted coffee. Afterward, take the stroll to the Clock Tower—the only medieval town belfry in England—and climb the 93 steps for a view that stretches across the Abbey and out toward the green belt.
